There comes that time in New York where winter is waving goodbye and it is just getting warm enough to have a drink on a rooftop, walk to work each morning, and go exploring after dinner. Daylight savings are finally here, sunsets are even more stunning, and spring has sprung! Dating-wise, it’s like music to our ears – the options are endless, and romance is blossoming (see what we did there)!
New Yorkers are smart, savvy and always looking to embrace their city. Not only is it heavenly to get outdoors and experience something different, it is also very low-cost! Here are some of our favorite casual springtime date ideas that put dinner and a movie to absolute shame.
WALK THE LINE
Strolling down the High Line in Spring is especially gorgeous on a date. The Meatpacking District is buzzing, the walk is refreshingly green, the sun is warm, the sunset impeccable! Frankly, it makes the experience all the more better when you are on a date, taking some time together to see and appreciate the beauty of the city we live in. The walk itself only goes for half an hour (max), so it is a nice thing to do that won’t take up your whole evening.
PICNIC IN THE PARK
This is the beauty of daylight savings: A weeknight, after work, twilight picnic in Central Park! Pack your rosé, nibbles and blanket and lay on the grass together as the sun goes down. A perfect mid-week date where you can enjoy each other, unwind, and escape the city for a little while*. Keep in mind, when the two of you are having a picnic together, it is all about open body language. Chemistry is key!
BIKE TO BROOKLYN
Jump on a bike and get the wind in your hair! Hire a CitiBike and ride across the Brooklyn Bridge to Dumbo. Grab some food to-go and plonk yourselves down underneath the Manhattan Bridge for an amazing view, a (possible) turn on the merry-go-round, and a perfect New York night.
ROOFTOPS FOR DAYS
One of the most magical moments in New York is watching the sun go down over a show-stopping rooftop. Whether you are at a swanky bar, or have your own bottle of wine on the roof of your apartment – nothing can beat the wind down, as you watch the city quiet down (or get louder, depending where you are), for the night.
Lights, camera, action! Get your snuggle on at one of the many outdoor cinemas that pop up in the warmer months. Piece of advice? Try and get as close as you can to the screen so you can listen clearly, sometimes old New York can be a little loud (in case you hadn’t noticed).
This one is SO underrated. Chinatown is literally exploding with fresh produce, rare foods and crazy asian fusion ingredients. Stroll through the streets together and find a concoction of delicious ingredients to cook a dinner for two. From bartering, weighing veggies, and experiencing all the unique sights and smells, it is a real adventure!
Be a tourist in your own city – take in some culture together! In New York, there are so many amazing museum exhibits, gallery openings, and independent films to enjoy… you would be crazy not to take advantage.
A weekend activity: hire a car, drive upstate, and go for a hike! Not only is this an activity you can do together that takes you both out of your comfort zone, it is one that will leave you feeling fit, healthy and positive. Go breathe in that fresh country air! There is nothing like it.
Jump on the Ferry together and ride along the Hudson or East River. It is such a stunning way to view Manhattan, and the perfect point of difference for a dinner date up or downtown.
Hit up Coney Island together for a day of ferris-wheeling, prize-winning, candy-induced glory! Need we say more? You can picture the beaming smiles already.
*Only just, but still!
