The Best Couples’ Costumes of 2011: The Hunger Gamesby Chiara Atik on October 17, 2011
It’s almost Halloween, which means that if you and your date are going to coordinate costumes, it’s time to start locking one down. (A costume, not a date.) (Well, possibly a date, too.) Over the next few days, we’re going to be publishing quick, easy, and timely couple costume ideas. Because, let’s face it: having the best costume at the party basically proves that you’re the coolest couple. So it’s important.
This week, we’re starting off with a little something for the YA lovers…
Katniss and Peeta (or Gale?) from The Hunger Games
Want to prove you’re hip with the lit crowd? Go as Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games: this costume is easy peasey, and you’ll feel like such a trend setter when everyone else does this costume next year (once the movies have been released.)
Basically just dress as if you’re going hunting (for either animals or, uhm, people. Take your pick). Wear jeans, boots, any sort of vest-ish type thing you can come up with…even a North Face jacket would be fine, if you hide the label. (Cover it with a “Mockingjay” pin, of which there are a ton on Etsy.) Your hair should be in a braid.
Think along the same lines as Katniss: any variation of what you would wear to go camping or hiking will work. Differentiate between Peeta and Gale with little details. Gale, as a hunter, would maybe have a few pelts, knives, or arrows on him. Peeta, on the other hand, could carry a (fake or real) loaf of bread. You can also add a “District 12″ patch of some sort.
