I have a BFA from a Film & Theater art school, so I feel comfortable making this claim: Actors are a different breed. It’s not a better or worse thing, they’re just running on a different type of fuel. Working as an actor is emotionally taxing and physically demanding. Budding thespians balance the intimacy of performance with the grueling hustle of the audition process. The actor’s live is roller coaster. And by association, so is the life of their significant other.
In one of their signature outlandish commercials, Saturday Night Live pokes fun at this very specific relationship, suggesting that a “normal” will only survive the ups and downs of life alongside an actor by chugging a “24-Hour Energy Drink.” It feels… pretty accurate, while all in good fun. If an actor’s boyfriend or girlfriend can’t ride the high of memorizing eight monologues before an early morning audition, the least they can do is down copious amounts of caffeine.
