Breaking up is hard, even when it’s the right thing to do. No matter the doomsday situation, the worst part is losing a person who was an important part of your life. There is no perfect way to breakup with someone and the mourning period can last for a week of ice cream and Nicholas Sparks, to a year of pretending to be friends and going home together… It’s impossible to navigate!

When you breakup with a partner, there is a common reoccurrence of the old “want what you can’t have” sitch. Something about someone being readily available in your life makes parting from them all the more difficult when you think about your loss of sex on tap. (Seriously, you are all thinking it — I am just saying it).

I have news for you though, we’ve all been there — and you are not alone! According to’s recent Singles In America survey 25% of singles have hooked up with an ex after a breakup, while 33% have dreamed about sexing an ex!

Sex-aside, there is the tricky topic of staying friends, in which 42% of women would want to. Although staying friends to keep tabs on their romantic future is a tempting prospect, only keep in touch with an ex if you have both moved on. There is nothing worse than you pining and pretending to be uber cool with everything while they are off having a time — be honest with yourself!

A no brainer, really — 50% of women are NOT okay with a friend dating an ex. On top of this, dating an ex’s friend is cool with 25% of women, and 50% of men.

For the sixth year in a row have surveyed over 5000 singles across the United States to let us all in on the do’s and don’ts of single life in 2016. Check back here for more do’s and don’ts from, and see here for full survey results of Singles In America.
