When three babies were born this year, their parents looked into their beautiful newborn eyes and thought: “Cheese,” that’s what we’ll call you. And that is what they did. No family members intervened. No nurses suggested they reconsider. Three children are now roaming around with the given name Cheese. Just wait until they hear their name on class picture day at school!
Shockingly, this is not the worst that Gwyneth-acolytes have inflicted on their children this year. The website, BabyCenter, compiled a list of most common names based on answers provided by their large user base. While collecting the most common names, such as Olivia and Aiden, the site also collected some of the strangest names to crop up. They are listed below in all their glory.
Note The Hunger Games influences in the names: Archita has the reverberations of archery; Kashmere is the female tribute from District 1 in the Third Quarter Quell; and Flower, Tulip, and Kalliope are evocative of Katniss and Primrose. Pop culture is taking over.
