Smoking Kills Your Chances For A Second Date, Says Science

We already know smoking will destroy your sex life, but a recent survey of more than 1,000 Match.com users shows lighting up on a first date could ruin your chances of scoring at all. Fifty-one percent of survey respondents said taking a smoke break on a first date was a dealbreaker even worse than checking your phone (45 percent) or being late (40 percent). No word on whether or not that number changes if your date is stepping out for an e-cigarette break.

The fact that smoking tops the list of first-date dealbreakers goes hand-in-hand with some of the study’s other findings:

  • Nearly 90 percent of survey respondents said they prefer to date nonsmokers.
  • Nearly 60 percent of survey respondents said they would never date a smoker.
  • Nearly 80 percent of survey respondents said they mind kissing someone after they’ve had a cigarette.

Note: This does not give you license to arrive to your date 20 minutes late while on an emergency phone call with your therapist.
