Happy first day of spring! Luckily, the weather here in New York is fairly warm and beautifully sunny, so I’m totally feeling that start of the season buzz. You know, when you want to walk outside for hours and then reorganize your entire closet by getting rid of all your stupid snow boots and sweaters immediately?
The hopeful spirit you get at the start of spring makes it a good time for a single gal to do a little spring-cleaning of her love life too. Depending on how motivated you are, here are three things you can do to clear out the clutter, ranging from the simple and concrete to the slightly more complicated and emotionally involved.
Easiest: Delete old numbers from your phone or email addresses from your contacts list. Simple, quick, and baggage-lifting, not to mention an easy way to save potential embarrassment when you’re sending texts after one too many drinks, or your email gets one of those weird viruses and sends a weird message to everyone in your contacts. You don’t need to delete all evidence of ex-boyfriends from your life, but do you really need to keep the phone number of that guy you went out with for a month over a year ago? Nope. Bye!
Medium: Clean up your online dating profile. Take off that picture from two years ago pre new bob haircut, or update your hobbies to include your newfound obsession with home brewing. That profile you wrote eight months ago is getting stale, and keeping it fresh is one of our top tips for getting noticed.
Kinda hard: Let go of old fantasies, and no, I don’t mean of the sexual nature. (Go ahead and keep those.) In long periods of being single, you might notice yourself falling back on old visions of your future: what it would have been like if you’d married your ex, what your kids would have looked like with your college boyfriend. But that’s not your future anymore, so it’s time to let go of those so your heart and mind are freed up for a new version of your fantasy life.
