It’s easy to get bored with the whole dinner+movie date thing, but it takes a lot of energy and planninng to step outside the box. Here’s an idea — if you are still on a Rom-Com kick on the coattails of summer, consider Once, The Musical, the Broadway adaptation of the Academy Award-winning movie/love story of two young musicians and performers.
Romance is far from run-of-the-mill in this Broadway production, taking what you thought you knew about love and kicking it out the window. (In case you need more proof it’s stellar, it’s already won the Tony award for 2012’s best musical.) The plot is a daringly honest tale of raw, emotional love between an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant, all of which revolves around one fateful week. The story, which has been told and retold again, develops in a way that will make you never want to bring a date to a plain-old movie again.
Take this opportunity to get dressed to the nines with your date in tow and go see Once, a Broadway show that is so not what you thought you could get out of a musical. ‘Once, the Musical’ is being performed at the Bernard B Jacobs Theatre, with show times ranging from weekday matinee to weekend evenings.
