French photographer David One releases a heartbreaking photo series, Presence, which follows the intimate relationship between a man who is no longer alive and his loved one in her time of mourning. Through this amazing visual story line, One conveys the devastating sadness, depression, and search for peace that consumes someone after a beloved has passed away.
The woman, a feature component who we never actually get a good look at, is wearing all black and seems to be in the deepest level of despair, contemplating life without him while seemingly unaware he’s standing with her, unable to console her agony.
The overwhelmingly sad thought that someone who has died could still linger can be both frightening and comforting.
