In the scenic mountains of West Virginia, this adorable couple put their creative forces together to build a one-of-a-kind home away from home. With the eye of a photographer (Nick Olsen) and style of a designer (Lilah Horwitz), this artistic power couple resourced materials for their towering glass castle from an abandoned barn, boasting a total spend at around $500.

In this YouTube documentary, Olson says, “We were able to make it a reality because we are first artists and creators. We had to be resourceful to do it cheaply.” This meant living off of beans and rice while dedicating their time and energy to constructing their one-of-a-kind home.

The couple spends a majority of their time at their primary residence in Milwaukee, though when an escape is necessary they head into the wilderness, where they live without electricity and plumbing, basking in the sunlight drifting through the 25 glass window feature wall. “That’s when everything inside is on fire,” Horwitz says.
