J.K. Rowling Admits Hermione Actually Belonged with Harry Potter, Not Ron

Uh-oh. J.K. Rowling recently revealed that she regrets pairing up Harry Potter’s best friends, Ron and Hermione, at the end of her beloved book series. Not only has Rowling broken thousands of fans’ hearts (mine included) with this bomb, but she’s also sent the fanfiction community back to square one finding better matches for Mrs. Weasley. I shudder to think of the Snapemione train getting new fuel.

“I know, I’m sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause for some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that,” Rowling said in an interview with Wonderland magazine. “It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility.” She even suggests marriage counseling for the fictional couple.

Actress Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the Harry Potter films, agreed: “I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.” What if this restarts the ship wars of the early 2000’s? I guess I’ll have to get ready to battle my fellow Muggles in the name of Ronmione — but like it or not, (past) Rowling made them canon.
