The Top 8 ‘Real Housewife’ Divorcesby Wesley Bonner on April 12, 2013
Bravo’s hit mega series, “The Real Housewives,” follows the drama, catfights, romance, and heartaches of some of the fiercest women in the country. With nonstop cast changes and more feuds than you can keep up with, each season seems to feature a marriage in despair. And so we watch as it either explodes into train-wreck reality gold, or rekindles into next season’s plot line.
Here are 8 more of the show’s most memorable breakups:
#8. Porsha and Kordell Stewart
Living the “picture perfect life” on camera, Porsha Stewart has reportedly been locked out of her shared home with her husband, former NFL star Kordell Stewart. Stewart has thrown low blows early in their divorce battle, claiming that the Atlanta housewife has neglected her responsibilities for her stepson and does not deserve spousal support as a result of her “celebrity.”
#7. Camille and Kelsey Grammar
Shortly after the wrap of Season 1 of RHO Beverly Hills, 44-year-old Camille Grammer learned her husband, actor Kelsey Grammer, was leaving her for a 30-year-old British flight attendant he'd been having an affair with for over 6 months. After heated custody and settlement negotiations, Kelsey married his new flame just 15 days after the divorce was finalized. Camille still appears on the show, though she’s taking more time for her children and hot 35-year-old boyfriend Dimitri Charalambopouls.
#6. Countess LuAnn and Count Alexandre de Lesseps
The first royal housewife, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, provided Bravo with its first royal divorce. In 2009, the musically-inclined reality star divorced her husband of 16 years, Count Alexandre de Lesseps, after reports of his numerous infidelities. Often criticized by her castmates, LuAnn claims she can keep the Countess title until she remarries. Last season, viewers watched her relationship with boyfriend Jacques struggle after her rumoured hook-up with a Johnny Depp look-alike in St. Barts.
#5. Tamara and Simon Barney
RHO Orange County veteran Tamra Barney kicked her controlling husband to the curb, literally, at the end of Season 5. In the finale episode, Barney yelled “I want a divorce!” to then-husband Simon Barney en route to the show’s season wrap party, and he filed papers later that month. Tamra struggled to conform to the OC Housewife stereotype for 2 previous seasons and longed to be independent. With only two episodes into the series’ 8th season, history is on the verge of repeating itself as Tamra clashes with her controlling new fiance, Eddie Judge.
#4. Brandi Glanville and Eddie Cibrian
Brandi Glanville, may be the only Housewife who can thank her divorce for a spot on the series. Brandi was introduced to the cast by former Beverly Hills Housewife, and divorcee, Adrienne Maloof, in season 2, during the former's divorce from actor Eddie Cibrian. Cibrian left her after a very public affair with country singer LeAnne Rimes, who also left her husband the same year. Season 3 of TRHBH followed Brandi’s struggle with money after her split. In February, Glanville released “Drinking and Tweeting: And Other Brandi Blunders,” which rose to #1 on the New York Times list of Best Selling E-Books.
#3. Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy
Many viewers saw themselves in humble dreamer Bethenny Frankel, and she used her likability to build an empire of Skinny Girl beverages, best-selling books, and 2 Housewives spin-off shows: "Bethenny Getting Married" and "Bethenny Ever After." In December, Frankel filed for divorce from hubby Jason Hoppy. Though the drama is far from over as the couple battles over money and the custody of their 2-year old daughter, Frankel is staying in the spotlight as she preps for her new talk show.
#2. Vicki and Donn Gunvalson
As the last original Housewife from the series’ first franchise, Orange County, Vicki Gunvalson has not been shy on her search to fill her “love tank.” Though it seemed she’d never divorce her second ex-husband, Donn, she nonetheless took the plunge once again between seasons 6 and 7 after years of complaining of loneliness. The current season of TRHO Orange County will follow Vicki as she hides her relationship with fellow insurance agent, Brooks.
#1. NeNe and Gregg Leakes
Over the course of 5 seasons, NeNe Leakes and her ex-husband, Gregg, have ridden a rollercoaster of war and peace. Viewers watched as NeNe’s career blossomed with roles on "Glee," "The Game," and "The New Normal." However, her marriage self-destructed as Gregg struggled to find his place in her new world. Luckily, viewers also got to see the couple’s search to rekindle their romance (neither moved out of their Atlanta home) and NeNe said yes when Gregg re-proposed on a recent episode. We expect a finale wedding in Season 6!
