Women Twice as Likely to Orgasm from Relationship Sex Than One-Night Stands

A study of 600 college students has found that women are twice as likely to have an orgasm from a sexual encounter in a serious relationship than from a random hookup. In a related survey, only 40 percent of ladies reported coming during their last hookup (compared to 80 percent of men), while three-quarters of the female respondents said they had an orgasm the last time they had sex in a committed relationship.

Why? Not because – as is my personal belief – strangers are, without exception, bad people who want to lure you into their vans with candy. The real reasons are myriad.

Consider all the sexual amenities a committed relationship provides: the emotional and physical security, the ease of communication – you and your hookup just met at the bar, what, forty-five minutes ago? –  your partner’s experience with your body and the extracurricular, non-intercourse activities that you particularly enjoy, and his or her companionate interest in giving you a whole bunch of pleasure. (Slightly less optimistic hypothesis: could ladies in a relationship also be more likely to falsely report having an orgasm to protect their partners’ feelings?)

Relationship sex may seem less naughty, but goddamn if it isn’t reliable.
