Beard or no beard

Empirically verifiable fact: beards are hot. Now that the New York Times has officially acknowledged their existence, doctors in New York City have observed a rise in the number of patients seeking facial hair transplants, a procedure that can cost as much as $7,000.

One plastic surgeon reports that, while he’d perform several beard implants a year in the early 2000s, he now does three a week. But the eight-hour procedure (which uses hair from the head, and sometimes the chest) isn’t just for aspiring hipsters. Doctors also cater to Hasidic Jews, men with facial scars, and clients in the midst of a gender transition.

Popular facial hair requests include George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and — for the mustache-only crowd — Tom Selleck. (What, no Karl Marx?) Is a full-on beard implant out of your price range? Consider one of these instead.
