If you’re one of those people who hate shows like The Bachelor and accepts the fact that there’s no way a person can actually find love whilst being followed around by a production crew in a controlled environment, you’re really going to hate VH1’s new reality show, Naked Dating. The music-focused network is hoping to offer a fresh take on reality dating shows by throwing in an unexpected plot twist: naked people.
Naked Dating leaves little to the imagination. Each hourlong episode will follow two sets of strangers meeting for the first time, all completely naked. The show’s unofficial stance is that the main purpose of the nudity is not to arouse the participants or the viewers (though we expect there will be more six packs on this show than in Larry the Cable Guy’s refrigerator), but rather to encourage the daters to lean more on their heart when deciding on a second date.
The shows creators told the Hollywood Reporter, “With all the dating options in the world, what happens if you take one man and woman and strip them of all their pretenses?” So, what’s more awkward? Spending an entire day thinking about your date naked? Or seeing your date naked immediately and spending the day staring at his sad little limp dick?
VH1 hopes to capitalize on the success of other nudity-based reality TV shows like Naked and Afraid, Naked Vegas, and Buying Naked, although a premiere date for Naked Dating has not been set yet.
