Just like MySpace (and Friendster!) predated Facebook, a new dating app called Charm is hoping to steal the local-based dating app crown from Tinder. It’s hook? It uses videos instead of photos.

Meet Me, the rebranded and erstwhile MyYearbook company, just launched Charm which allows users to upload videos of themselves Vine style (you even hold down the screen) instead of just photos. “Because you are so much more than a profile pic,” they say. Otherwise the swiping right and swiping left and chatting with your matches is all the same. Well, we all know that photos are important, and video can show how a person really looks now, how they talk, and their overall demeanor. It could be progress. Or it could just be a bundle of successful apps (Tinder, Vine, SnapChat) thrown in a blender (remember Blendr?!).
