We’ve come a long way, haven’t we, ladies? We no longer ride side saddle, we write major sitcoms, we filibuster like a boss. Not so fast. The filmmakers behind the 2011 documentary Miss Representation have packed another punch with a new video exploring how the media has once again underrepresented, vilified, and demeaned women through their representations in 2013.

While we have our powerful Katniss Everdeen building a film empire, Mindy Kaling rocking her own comedy, Kerry Washington sweeping up an Emmy nomination, and Malala Yousafzai gracing the cover of Time, we still have a lot to work on. This was still the year of egregiously offensive Carl’s Jr. ads, GoDaddy commercials, and dehumanizing remarks about political leaders like Hillary Clinton and Wendy Davis. Watch this 3-minute video and feel outraged for the first half, and then, inspired to see the opportunities we have to change in 2014.
